Khlong Toei Market

This market is definitely an eye-opener if you want a slice of real Bangkok life. It’s huge, buzzing with locals buying everything from fresh fruits to live frogs and snakes (yes, seriously). The smell can be intense—meat and fermented stuff mingling in the air—but that’s part of the experience. Watch your step though, the floors are usually wet and slippery, so flip flops aren’t ideal unless you like squelching around. I found the fish section a bit intimidating—those slippery things jumping about caught me off guard more than once. But the prices are great, especially for fruit which was surprisingly sweet. No touristy stalls here, just genuine local vibes and friendly people who didn’t mind my curious gawking. If you’re after a sanitized market or lots of places to grab a quick bite, this might not be for you. But if you want to wander through something truly authentic and don’t mind getting your feet a bit dirty, it’s worth checking out.

Local wet market. Not for the faint hearted, but worth a visit to see how local trade is done.

You can get the freshest produce here. Fish, prawns, meat, vegetables etc is readily available here. Crowded, hot and occasionally smelly, you have to tackle you way around this market.
